INAUGURAL DRAFT
Trade - Give 1.08 and rookie 1.25 to ATL for 1.13 and 4.20 - Wasn't in love with anyone at 8, and I thought it might be beneficial for me to exchange a rookie for a vet.
1.13 - QB Patrick Mahomes - While Mahomes has a huge contract ($45M), there is no doubt that he is an elite QB. He was one of the last players I felt was a true franchise QB, and he was only $6M more expensive than Deshaun Watson, who himself is entering murky waters.
2.25 - WR Jerry Jeudy - I was all over this pick after seeing the run on young WRs earlier in the draft. Jeudy might not have the sexiest situation with Lock at the helm, but his tape is legit. He's only one year into a cheap rookie deal, and he should be able to solidify himself as a firm WR2 with upside sooner or later.
Trade - Give 3.08 to TEN for 3.21, 2021 Rookie 2.21 - I was eyeing AJ Dillon with my pick. He went off the board 5 picks before me, and I thought my best move would be to trade back and recoup some of the draft capital that I traded away earlier.
3.21 - RB Damien Harris - I was torn between a couple of options here. However, I think Harris is the right choice. Michel seems to be disappearing into nothing in that backfield, and both White and Burkhead are free agents.
4.20 - DT Aaron Donald - This was pure value for me. I wasn't in love with any players at other positions. Donald can absolutely win you games. He and Mahomes should be able to stack up a few wins even if the rest of my team sucks.
Trade - Give 4.25, 9.08 to BUF for 6.22, 8.22, rookie 2.12 - I wasn't looking to trade back, but I felt like I was getting good value by picking up an early rookie draft pick here.
5.08 - S Kamren Curl - Safeties started flying off the board, so I went with Kurl, who was a top safety over the back half of the season. He should continue to develop and be a great player for the WFT.
6.22 - LB Josh Uche - LBs had been flying off the board for a while. I felt that it was important to get a young, cheap player at the position. While Uche struggled with injuries, he's played well for the Pats.
Trade - Give 6.25, 12.25 to LAC for 7.16, 10.28, 22 1st - This was another pure value trade. Drop ~20 picks in the 6th to move up ~60 in the 12th and pick up a 1st.
7.08 - TE Tyler Higbee - Higbee isn't my first choice at TE, but he is a reliable target over the course of the season. With Everett leaving in free agency, he should see more receptions for the Rams.
7.16 - LB Rashan Gary - The same mindset that applied to the Uche pick applies here. Preston Smith is an easy cut for the Packers, and I expect Gary to take on a large workload in 2021.
8.22 - WR Brandin Cooks - While Cooks may be expensive, he was the WR16 last season while sharing targets with Will Fuller. Houston's QB situation might be in turmoil, but Cooks has always been a reliable target.
8.25 - WR Donovan Peoples-Jones - With Cooks's big money on the books, I felt the need to find another cheap option. Odell's return in 2021 might limit DPJ's production, but the talent is there. He's on a great offense and should continue to put up good numbers over the course of his rookie deal.
9.08 - CB Cameron Dantzler - I'm not super high on paying up for CBs, but I felt like Dantzler is one of the best of the group. Not only is he great in coverage, he's super physical. The Vikings' front 7 struggled in 2020, and Dantzler should have plenty of opportunities to rack up tackles.
10.25 - DE Emmanuel Ogbah - I finally took a DE, and a pretty productive one. Ogbah had 9 sacks in 2020 and is on a reasonable deal. It's certainly possible his production dips, but he's a seasoned vet and will demand high snap shares.
11.08 - PK Tyler Bass - I was going to target a RB with this pick, but seeing the first PK go off the board 2 picks prior and knowing that I didn't have another chance to get a player for 64 picks, I opted for Bass. Bass is on a super cheap long term deal and is locked into a top 5 offense. Even if they never attempt field goals, he'll be guaranteed a bunch of PATs.
13.08 - TE Josiah Deguara - I'm not super confident in Tyler Higbee to maintain a productive statline over the next few years. I took a shot here on Deguara, who I thought was more of a FB coming out. But seeing how productive Tonyan has been this year, Deguara seems to be in a great spot to take over sooner or later.
14.25 - RB Damien Williams - I needed an RB2 and I didn't quite feel comfortable betting on free agency to fill my need. Williams is returning to a high octane offense and should fill the role Le'Veon Bell will be departing.
15.08 - TE Colby Parkinson - Because I don't have a stud TE, I decided to take a bunch of lottery tickets. There's some quiet buzz on Parkinson. If he can be the starter in a Russell Wilson offense, he's worth a shot.
16.25 - QB Chad Henne - If there's one place I don't want to be, it's without a QB. This seemed like a good spot for my backup QB.
17.08 - CB Rashad Fenton - Fenton is on a long term rookie deal, and he played well down the stretch for KC. He'll be my CB2 behind Dantzler.
18.25 - K Austin Seibert - I don't totally have a plan for Seibert yet. Optimistically, he turns into a reliable starter for Cincy and I can use him as trade bait. Worst case, he's on a super cheap deal and he's an emergency backup for Bass.
